St@ff Tr@ining 05-06

Here we are again, staff training for 05-06. I will be teaching Technology again this year and I am super excited about the fact that I am back. This summer was great, I was a summer camp counselor for ID Tech Camps and I got to teach Video Game Creation and Robotics. This was super cool becuase I got lots of ideas for my classes this year. I also attended Responsive Classroom 1 this summer for a whole week. Even though I taught RC all last year, I went to the training and learned a lot. I learned that there are tons of ways to introduce and facilitate academic choice and morning meeting.

As I look around the school I notice a ton of new faces. There must be 5 new teachers and 6 new EAs. Today we did a get to know you activity that included throwing our shoes in the middle of the room, it was fun and smelly. Then we looked at our covenant and decided how to change it. Our adult community is working really hard to use email as our main source of communication this year. I agree with this as it shows a progression of what is happening as well as having something in writing.

As I reflect back on the staff training for this year I like to think that I am more professional then ever and have learned to not join in when people start talking. A big challenge for me this year will be rearranging my curriculum to include design technology as well as artTech. Since we are using the lab so much this year for testing I have decided to start these new projects. They will show the kids that technology is not just computers but can include lots of projects outside of the lab.
